The Facility

and Boarding

Gale’s Equine Facility

is located in the Town of Big Flats, with an address of

219 Sing Sing Road, Horseheads, NY.

We are located less than a mile from Exit 50 off of Interstate 86, facing the Elmira Corning Regional Airport.

Our indoor arena is one of the largest in the area, allowing us to set up a whole jump course inside or a 20 x 40 dressage arena with room to spare for a holding area.

We also have two fenced in outdoor riding arenas, one in which, during the summer months, we set up a 20 x 60 meter dressage arena.

We also have vinyl and plastic coated fencing to make up our over 20 + turnout paddocks and pastures.

Our large indoor arena has rubber footing which has been treated for dust control.  Large mirrors are installed for the riders to assess their skills and performance.

Our stable offers large box stalls with rubber mat floors.  Wide aisle allow for the placement of tack trunks and easy movement of horses.

We currently use wood pellet bedding in our stalls.  With our Stall Shif*ter machine, we can easily sift and clean our stalls every day.

We are ready for maintaining access to our barn with our equipment.  Our stable is open to its boarders seven days a week.

We strive to do daily turnout of horses at Gale’s, working around weather conditions.  We also use our indoor arena for exercising horses.

Additional amenities to our facility include the heated tackroom and restroom area.  We have two round pens on site. There are plenty of trails in our area to explore and enjoy.  We just recently ordered new jumps for our indoor arena consisting of five complete units of jumps make of PVC for easy handling.

Our “full care” board includes daily stall cleaning, three feedings per day (two feedings if horses are turned out on pasture during the day), daily outdoor turnout (weather permitting - we’ll give stretch and roll time in the indoor arena during inclement weather), pre-determined quantities of hay and concentrated feed, administering of supplied daily supplements.  Blanketing and flyspraying included. Extra Bedding can be purchased.

Keeping horses at our facility has, thanks to the costs of doing business in the State of New York become expensive. Here is a rough summary of the basic costs of taking care of a horse at our stable:

Cost Per Horse Per Month at my stable (boarders & Gale’s’ horses)

Building Costs*:     $    99.23 (Insurance, Taxes, NYSEG, Repairs, Equipment)

Payroll:  $496.03 (Payroll & Co-op, including overhead) (Gale & John ARE NOT getting any pay!)

Basic Supplies:     $ 185.37 (Hay, Grain, Bedding) and everyone is expected to help with hay production.

Ops Costs:   $ 103.07 (Admin/Security, Supplies, Fly/Odor Control, brooms, pitchforks!)

Total Costs: $ 883.70 Per horse per month (2025 costs)

My clients tell me, and some of them have been at other stables, that “you get what you pay for”and they are happy at my stable.  I know that our rates are at the high end, but these are the true costs, per month, per horse. There is simply no way around it.  Sure, there are less expensive facilities, but no where will you find better expertise, experience and longevity in the equine boarding business.

So, 2026 rates for board per horse at my stable is now $915 per month which includes the NY SALES TAX and FOUR REQUIRED RIDING GROUP LESSONS PER MONTH. I know it’s high…but that what it costs to be at a high end boarding facility.

REMEMBER - Board fee includes four group lessons per month,  and this is required at Gale’s. You can skip the lessons but you still pay for them as part of the board package.

Please contact Gale to inquire on discounts for“working boarder” and “partial self-care” programs.
